Sometimes it's difficult to figure out a great gift that will be used for more than 10 minutes. The one category that is usually always a big hit --
SENSORY TOYS & EQUIPMENT
I've created a list of items of my favorite toys & equipment for children with sensory needs. My list is divided by age groups, but be sure to look over the whole list because many times an item can be helpful for a variety of ages. (I mean, who doesn't loooove bubbles?!)
I've provided the links to Amazon for your convenience, however some of the items may be found at other places for a different price. It's always good to do some price comparison! The items vary in price from under $10 and up to $175. Items I have recommended with a higher price tag, I assure will provide value for a long time and are worth the investment.

This colorful, textured toy makes the best "pop" noise as the suction releases. So. Much. Fun! (tactile & auditory)
Pullllllll them long and then push it back together. A silly, fun noise toy. This is one that is loved by many ages. (auditory & tactile)
Twilight Turtle Night Light Soother
This cute little guy helps with transitioning to sleep. (visual & calming)
Wobble Disk - Spin Climb Saucer
Spin and rock around the clock! If your child loves movement, this is a great investment. (vestibular/movement)
If you haven't tried this yet - you must! The texture is fabulous... feels like sand, but also squishy and can hold its shape. It also won't dry out. Tip: for easy clean-up, put the sand on a cookie sheet with a lip so the sand is contained and doesn't go all over. (tactile & calming)
Do you have a little one with LOTS of energy? Let them get it out safely by jumping. (vestibular/movement & deep pressure)
I know, this looks odd but take it from me that for children who like to "crash," "bang," or "wiggle," this is a must-have item. Made from breathable lycra/spandex, it helps your child calm and regulate their body. Plus, it's just so much fun! (tactile, deep pressure, calming)
This little thing is MESMERIZING! Great for car rides, sitting in a waiting room, or when a child just needs a breather. Also, the picture does not do it justice. It is really cool! (visual, calming)
Spin Disk Spinning Saucer
Hours & hours & hours of spinning, rocking, and balancing. It provides that input many children crave. Your child can sit, kneel, lie down, or stand and it can hold up to 125 lbs. (vestibular/movement)
Soft, stringy, stretchy, smooth, wiggly, and jiggly - this is a FAVORITE. Let the "noodles" drip between your fingers. When I attend meetings, lots of therapists and teachers like to play with this! (tactile & calming)
Do you have any of these and if so, what do you think? Also, do you have suggestions of other must-have sensory toys & equipment? Share them with us in the comments!
